Questions everyone asks, answered once

How to make a receipt

  1. Add your business. Name, address and a phone or email, so the customer knows who was paid.
  2. Fill in the sale. Receipt number, date, how it was paid, and one line per item with quantity and price.
  3. Download it. Subtotal, tax and total are added up for you. Save a PDF to email or print, or a PNG to send in a chat.

What should a receipt include?

A useful receipt names the seller, has a unique number and the date, lists what was sold with quantities and prices, shows tax separately, gives the total paid and says how it was paid. Many customers need exactly this to claim an expense or return an item, so keep the description specific ("Sourdough loaf", not "Goods").

Receipt or invoice?

An invoice asks for payment; a receipt confirms that payment was received. If the customer has already paid, give them a receipt. If they will pay later, send an invoice first and a receipt once the money arrives.

Can I use this for any sale?

Yes - for real sales you made: a market stall, a bake sale, freelance work, a private sale or a refund. Use your own business details and the real amounts.
